Yi Halo is the second generation of cylindrical action camera rigs designed for the Google Jump algorithm. The system consists of 16 cameras in the round, with another camera mounted face up in the middle to provide for zenith coverage. The system can be controlled from a central LCD touch controller and powered via a single battery unit.
High quality stereo 3D 360 video is created by uploading Yi Halo footage to the Google Cloud, enabling Google’s advanced Jump algorithm to process the footage and deliver stitched downloadable footage at 8K 30fps or 5K 60fps. The key advancement over the previous generation (GoPro Oddessey) is the zenith coverage camera.
The Yi camera is also a newer generation camera than the Hero4, with high resolution image capture. The system does feature an ‘action camera’ feel to the images and uses relatively off-the-shelf action camera lenses. The system is future-proofed as current gen Yi cameras can be directly swapped with future generations.
